Lead course

The lead course is aimed at those who already have a green card* and want to move on to new climbing challenges. The course goes through the basics of lead climbing and lead belaying. During the last session, you will have the opportunity to take the Red Card.

*If you do not have a green card, but consider that you have equivalent prior knowledge, you can book a climbing exam for the green card. You must be approved before you can book onto the lead course.

Part 1
During the first part of the course you will learn the basics of lead climbing and lead belaying such as clipping the rope into quickdraws while climbing, feeding out rope when belaying and learn under controlled conditions how to handle the art of falling and catching falls.

Part 2
During the second part of the course, you will repeat and consolidate the important lessons from the first session. You will also gain additional knowledge about equipment and belaying in case of weight differences between climbers and belayers. During the second session you will also complete a red card exam. The climbing exam consists of a short witten test and a practical exam, where you get to demonstrate your knowledge. If everything goes well, you will receive the Red Card, the licence required to leadbelay and leadclimb routes at Klättercentret.

We do not offer this course in English on a fixed schedule, but instead we refer you to make an enquiry to book a private course instead. In order to run the course, we need 2-4 participants,  who want to take it in English, so if you are alone you need to find at least 1 other person who also wants to do the course with you. The private course has a group price of 4949:- and can be organised at a time that suits you.

Important: It’s really important that you arrive in time for the course. If you arrive late you might be denied the possibility to participate.
